Cellar Doors

The Riverland’s specialty is turning river water into ripe fruit, generating a quarter of Australia’s wine grape production and 95 per cent of South Australia’s citrus production. Visit one of the many boutique cellar doors to sample major wine grape varieties, such as Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as rising favourites Montepulciano, Vermentino and Tempranillo.

Whilst visiting cellar doors in the Riverland look for the new meditteranean grape varieties. Thse include Petit Manseng, Durif, Tempranillo, Fiano, Montepulciano and Lagrein. Each of these varieties is ideally suited to the Riverland warm climate. Make sure you keep an eye out for our Riverland brands when visiting Riverland hotels, clubs & licensed premises.

Banrock Station is an excellent lunch destination where the local food is just one part of the amazing experience. Feast on a scrumptious grazing platter on the deck as you overlook this internationally recognised wetland. Sample wine at the cellar door and get close to nature on the self guided walking trails.

Caudo Vineyard located between Cadell and Waikerie has also recently commenced making Hogwash Bend Lager. Sample their entire range from their cellar door and enjoy a platter on the lush lawns that lead to the absolute river frontage.

Beer O'Clock

Handcrafted premium beer is always a draw card for visitors looking for a different way to ‘taste the region’ and microbreweries are fast becoming a key item on the holiday checklist.



Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery
Located inside an old sheep shearing shed on the historic Wilkadene Station, the Woolshed Brewery offers handmade premium boutique beer and cider in a unique setting. Accessible by car and water a great place to tie up your houseboat and spend some time tasting the range on the sun drenched deck as you take in the sights and sounds of Australia’s greatest waterway.

The Woolshed offer local Produce Picnic packs which have an array of delicious Riverland goods including olives, chutneys and metwurst.You can also take your lunch out and enjoy on the deck with one of their famous 'Ales'.

The Woolshed 's inaugural beer “Amazon Ale” was named after the stunning Amazon Creek, just 1 Kilometre upstream from historic Wilkadene Homestead. It was released in September 2009 and is now available throughout the Riverland and Adelaide. Amazon Ale is a full bodied, full flavoured Australian Style pale Ale which is extremely drinkable.

Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery have won 3 bronze medals for Amazon ale at the 2010 Australian International Beer Awards, 2011 Royal Adelaide Show & 2013 Australian International Beer Awards. In August 2011 we released out second brew 'Judas the Dark'. This dark ale is brewed with locally grown native roasted wattleseed and has a very unique flavour. . "Judas the dark' has won Silver Medals at the 2011 International beer awards and also the 2012 Royal Adelaide show. Summer 2012 saw the release of the third beer 'Summer Ale' which is a german style Kolsch ale. An easy drinking lightly hopped ale, perfect for our long hot Riverland summers. Woolshed brewery also produces our own cider called 'Utopia' cider. An apple cider fermented dry using 100% riverland apples.

The Overland Corner Hotel was built in 1859 and was originally an isolated frontier pub, frequented only by cattlemen driving cattle between South Australia and New South Wales. And it's rumoured bushranger Captain Moonlight rode his horse through the bar here for a coldie after assaulting a local policeman It includes a museum, nearby mines and a cemetery with resident ghosts. The region is also home to first Community Hotel in the British Empire.

Riverland Produce

Riverland fruit and vegetables taste like they are supposed to, with each mouthful an explosion of taste and memories. There’s nothing like purchasing fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables straight from the grower, or head to one of the Riverland factory outlets. Click here for a list of Riverland inspired recipes or click below to read more.



Roadside stalls and factory outlets provide the perfect opportunity to stock up, plus a regular farmers market in Berri provides an abundance of local produce all in the one location.

The Riverland is renowned for fresh and handmade products using local-grown oranges, lemons, limes, mandarines and grapefruit, as well as plums, peaches, apricots, nectarines and almonds.

The Riverland Farmers' Market is held each Saturday in Berri. Here local producers sell directly to the public, the number and types of food stalls present varying each week depending upon the season. Locally produced craft is also available from a limited number of craft stalls, the number and types of craft stalls varying each week.

The Market has become a popular meeting place for both locals and visitors and a breakfast bar offers a range of locally-produced breakfast food choices and locally-roasted coffee .

Alternatively you can  visit the unique roadside fruit stalls just down the on the Old Sturt Highway where you'll discover Aggies Fruit Stall opposite to Tony & Effies Fruit Stall with the in- season fruits of the Riverland- oranges, mandarins, butternuts, avocados and more.

Flavours of the Riverland (Home of Backyard Bread) on the Sturt High way in Barmera is a tasting cafe and providore. Whether you are a tourist meandering through our region, or a local yearning for something homemade and wholesome, Backyard Bread is the place to TASTE THE FLAVOURS of the RIVERLAND.

They offer a range of popular handmade bread bites to a delicious range of gourmet spreads, you will find a range of flavours which proudly exhibit the region's pristine, fresh produce.


The region also boasts is own boutique coffee roasting business Arrosto Coffee. These hand roasted coffee beans can be found at a range of Riverland outlets including the Riverland Farmer’s Market.

Also in Waikerie is Illalangi Gourmet Foods. Here you can try Illalangi's large range of artisan food products, exquisite gift hampers and platters, or test the range of soaps and body produsts. The Bush Tucker garden overlooks the beauitful River Murray, perfect scenery to try  a range of Riverland products.

In Renmark, stop in at the Almondco Almond Hut where you can try and buy various locally grown and produced almond products. Venture in to Renmark's main street to Nuts About Fruit and stock up on locally grown dried fruits, nuts and slices or head to Jimmy's Fresh Fruit and Vegie Shed for in season local produce.

Dining Out

Historic hotels full of folk lore and history coupled with modern riverfront watering holes and after dark venues are a welcome surprise to visitors to the region.




Established in 1897 The Renmark Hotel still operates as a community hotel and has many a story to tell. From famous guests to colourful accounts of Harry "Breaker" Morant riding his horse into the bar. Clubs can be found in most Riverland towns and are part of the regions culture offering value for money meal options and an opportunity to mingle with the friendly locals.

Wok on Water is described by locals as "The Best Thai on the Murray". Located aboard the Murray River Queen in Waikerie, the beautiful Murray River provides the perfect scenery for a sunset dinner. Choose from the fresh and large selection of stunning Thai cuisine, and sample the large range of Riverland wines. Overlook the river on the cafe deck as you relax and enjoy the superb flavours of Wok On Water.

For a fantastic family destination consider the Loxton club featuring an undercover playground and Kid’s Room. Places to squeeze through, scramble over, climb up and slide down – or for those who need a bit of time out, there are videos to watch, games to play and great food from the Kid’s Menu to keep you going. If after dark is more your thing check out the various venues offering live music or local DJ’s.

Located four kilometres from the town of Berri, and set in twenty four acres of bushland with its own quandong plantation, the Mallee Fowl Restaurant has become a ‘must visit’ destination for locals and tourists alike. With it’s fascinating collection of eclectic Australiana paraphernalia it has earned the title of best themed restaurant in Australia. Chef Caryl serves fine Aussie and European cuisine, complimented by an excellent range of wines.

The Renmark Club offers four exclusive dining areas, and can cater for up to 710 guests, providing a wide range of catering, from casual Bistro to formal restaurant for dinner parties. Diners may relax inside or on the outdoor decking, enjoying a coffee and cake or their favourite drink.

The Cafe A-La-Carte Menu has starters, traditional favourites, and selection of Mains, with a fresh salad bar and light lunch options.

Visit Bella Lavender Estate and experience the aromatic fragrance of lavender set amongst a beautiful backdrop of family owned vineyards and olive trees. The  fully licensed restauarant offers  wood oven pizzas, authentic Italian homemade meals and great cofee. Perfect for that relaxing morning or afternoon coffee, or perfect for dinner with friends.

Established in 1908 the historic Loxton Hotel is proudly owned by the Loxton community, channelling profits back into local charities, projects and events. The magnificent and massive hotel building has been extensively renovated, ensuring a seamless blend of new modern facilities and heritage areas. The Bistro menu changes with the seasons and is a combination of superb seasonal specials which feature fabulous, fresh, local produce and traditional favourites.

Eat Like A Local has been created to show you where you can find places that serve Riverland product on the menu. This itinerary promises to leave you satisfied to the brim with a suggested day itinerary for breakfast, lunch and tea.

Start the day with a delicious cooked breakfast on the deck at the Loxton Hotel and afterwards take a leisurely walk up the main street to browse country style shops or grab that second cup of coffee.

Then it’s a scenic drive via Yatco Lagoon to Illalangi Fine Wine & Gourmet Food to taste and buy a whole range of local product to take home and they’ve just finished an incredible edible bush tucker garden which sits on top of the cliff and looks over the Murray River.

Beer or wine? 

Depending on your tastes and preference we’ve provided two options for lunch which are both located across the river but easily accessed by the ferry crossing at Waikerie.

Caudo Vineyards has a beaut little rustic cellar door situated just metres from the river bank where you can enjoy an authentic local grazing platter or webber style gourmet barbecue.

The other unique lunch setting is the historic Overland Corner Hotel and walking trails. This famous little pub built in 1859 offers a regional style menu which can be enjoyed in the rustic beer garden setting or around the open fire in the front bar.

Afternoon tea and roses. 

Home to the biggest rose garden in the southern hemisphere we invite you to drive to Renmark for afternoon tea at Ruston’s Rose Garden. Wander the garden or browse the gift shop while locally roasted coffee and cake is served on the veranda.

Dinner and night cap.

The Mallee Fowl Restaurant has loads of character and offers a divine Australiana themed regional menu for a truly memorable experience amongst the memorabilia and live entertainment.
